Welsh Vegetables

When it comes to gardening sustainably and working to help increase biodiversity, there is so much potential when we support one another and work in a joined up way. In the local area around Dolbenmaen and Garndolbenmaen there are lots of small landowners – people living on historic smallholdings of 4-6 acres. In Summer 2026 we ran a series of ‘Garn Gwych' sessions at the village hall with an opportunity to practise ‘Cymraeg Natur’ and offer mutual support, and hints and tips for gardening and sustainable land management. Following on from this, we are now enjoying a series of visits to different gardens to share gardening wisdom and experience.

Here are some of the topics we learned about:
1. Cymraeg Natur – llysiau / vegetables
2. Seeds and seedlings
3. Container gardening
4. Companion plants
5. Composting

Thanks to our session leaders for some excellent input – it’s exciting to see the different projects developing and to learn how we can support one another and achieve some great outcomes for people and nature as a result.
